Dr. Katona, in our Miami / South Beach facility performs both Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) which involves removing a narrow strip of hair from the back of the scalp and then separating the hairs, under microscopic dissection, into one, two or at the most three hair groups which are called follicular units and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) which involves the mechanical extraction with a .8mm punch of individual follicular units leaving no linear donor scar. These follicular units are then precisely placed in a natural growth pattern on the top of the scalp. Older surgical techniques like hair flaps, plugs and scalp reduction are no longer utilized.

Today, follicular unit hair transplantation is the most common surgical treatment for hair loss. Cosmetic outcomes have improved steadily with experience, science and advanced instruments providing most patients with an incredibly natural, undetectable result.
